As usual, I had a great time writing and illustrating this second book in the Texas Festivals Series. One of my favorite parts of the process is actually visiting the festivals. Another favorite is channeling so many different characters. Making a saddle or a wagon talk isn't so easy, you know?
I love how children respond to Sally when they meet her in real life at readings. They all want to touch her, hug her, or cheer her onward. Even adults love taking selfies with her. It's heartwarming to see that my husband and I created and built Sally so well that she takes on the world with her own life just as she does in her stories. People of all ages love her! She's a terrific puppet to take to school readings and the children remember her for years.
It was a long ride to George West, Texas for the Little Red Wagon Parade, but I met so many great people there and can't wait until Sally makes her way back to Storyfest!
