Surrender: A Love Letter to My Daughter chronicles Crystal and her five-year journey with heroin told through the eyes of her mother, Lou Alpert. Two stints in detox, two trips to rehab, two babies, and homelessness are just broken fragments of this engaging story. As Crystal’s disease progressed, so did her mother’s. Stalking her daughter’s addiction and isolating herself to cope with the chaos of loving and trying to fix an addict, she lost herself in darkness until a CNN story exploded and forced her to look at her life and walk back into the light to face her own demons of co-dependency.

    Review

"My hope is that if you are reading this book, you will gain an insight into what addiction can do to a family. . . . My hope is that the stigma changes and this 'taboo' subject is brought out into the open and we all find the ways to heal--together." --Scottie Collins, CEO Savant Healthcare Systems
